NEW: Haiku Poker Chip!

At Helen: A Literary Magazine we’re changing things up and moving forward with our magazine by adding an innovative printing element to our issues.

The traditional printing format we’ve embraced is no longer cost effective. To be honest, it never was. We’ve decided to be smarter now in how we publish and so we’re embracing a new model of print that we feel does a better job of honoring Las Vegas and greater Southern Nevada. Keep reading …

We are looking for haikus and short poetry that can fit in the center of a poker chip.

Yes, a poker chip.

We’re open to content as long as it isn’t obscene or pornographic. We encourage work that demonstrates one or more of the following things:

  • inspired by traditional haiku
  • captures wisdom
  • a sense of life in Nevada
  • includes nature images
  • incorporates a sense of humor

May submit up to 12 haikus at one time. Submit all haikus together in one file.

All submissions will be considered for our web issues and ongoing “Friday Night Specials” (including the video option). We pay $2 for selected haikus for digital publication.

Poems chosen for printing on a poker chip from our magazine will be paid $25. Submit here.

Original content is strongly encouraged.

Our first poker chip issue will be a derivative of Jennifer Battisti’s poem published in our Spring 2016 issue. It will be tentatively released in July at our event at The Writer’s Block.
